What is Natural Resource Management?
Natural Resource Management (NRM) involves the management of a complex system where cultural, ecological, and economic elements form a web. Each component say, social, ecological or economic is interwoven in such a fashion that isolation of any hampers sustainable development. Such complexities necessitate the understanding and the application of NRM on a sustainable basis.
Expanding human population has resulted in ever increasing needs of man. Hence extraction of natural resources has been carried on without considering its future implications. As a result, there has been over exploitation of natural resources at the cost of the needs of the future generation. Many countries including ours have started facing severe crisis of natural resources like water, land, forest etc., for the few decades, realization has dawned upon man that it is high time that we take certain stern actions to stop and recover this degradation of natural resources.
Hence the need for management of natural resources becomes one of the very important issues to be dealt with. Keeping in view, the Distance Learning course on NRM has been designed.
