Participatory Biodiversity Management and Sustainable Livelihood in Mangrove Forest areas

IBRAD had organized a one day workshop on " Wetlands Management and Participatory Biodiversity Conservation for Sustainable Agriculture and Livelihood" on the 5th June 2016 atHerobhangaVidyasagarVidyamandir High School, Jharkhali in the Sundarbans on the occasion of the World Environment Day in association with the District Administration and the Departments of Forest, Agriculture, Water Resources Development, Government of West Bengal and with the active support from the Block Development Officer and local gram panchayat. More than 100 participants including the officials and staff of the departments of Forest, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water Resources, Animal Resources, panchayat representative, NGOs, students, SHG members and villagers were present in the workshop.

 

A four days residential training on "Participatory Mangrove Wetlands Management and Integrated Sustainable Livelihood"for the volunteers of three villages of Jharkhali, viz., BidhanPalli,NeheruPalli and Mandalgheri was held from 11th– 14thJuly 2016 at IBRAD campus, Kolkata. 20participants including three women have participated in the training. The training was inaugurated by Sri Rajiv Sharma, IFS, Joint Director of Sundarban Biosphere Reserve

 

Follow up trainings at Jharkhali and sustainable livelihood development

A follow up training on fish farming was held at Mandalgheri on 07.08.16 Participants were provided with hands on training for fish farming.

 

The women members of Bidhanpally have formed a group, 26.08.16 and have started raising nursery.

The members of Bidhanpally, Nehrupally and Mandalgherihave taken up plantation activities and have planted Sundari, 08.09.16 plants
