IBRAD (Indian Institute of Bio Social Research and Development) established in 1985 is involved in action research, training and capacity building of different stakeholders at the National and International levels.

IBRAD was established with the purpose of the growing need for:

  • Understanding the concepts of biological, social, and other natural sciences, through a systemic approach and unifying these concepts to develop a coherent body of knowledge
  • Thus applying the body of knowledge of socio-ecological processes through integrated systemic approaches and digital technology in the form of academic programs and training to address the problem of severe degradation of natural resources, climate change, and the social environment, upon which our survival depends.

It is recognised as a Centre of Excellence (CoE), recognized by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government Of India since 2019 and plays an important role in enriching the knowledge base and filling the research gaps through practical and result-oriented projects not only to enhance the capacity of existing institutions but also for devising ‘Appropriate Strategies of Tribal Development. The CoE- IBRAD will also be playing a complementary role to the ongoing programmes and activities being carried out by dedicated institutions i.e. Tribal Research Institutes in the States. IBRAD CoE is involved in the capacity building of the stakeholders and developed Models of Integrated Forest Mosaic Landscape Management for Climate Resilient Sustainable Livelihood Development.

Academic Diploma Course

IBRAD Centre of Excellence recognized under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, the Government of India launched the One Year Post Graduate Diploma Course on Sustainable Tribal Development Management in collaboration with Sidho-Kanho-Birsha University. Short Courses and Internship

Students of various reputed institutions undergo internship program at IBRAD. The duration of the internship varies from one month to six month’s duration. In the recent past MSW students from Vidyasagar School of Social Work and MBA students of MICA, formerly Mudra Institute of Communications, Ahmedabad and IIM, Rohtak have completed internship/Problem Solving Projects with IBRAD. Presently another batch of students of MICA is undergoing their internship with IBRAD for the Problem

Research

Since its foundation IBRAD is engaged in developing conceptual framework, methodologies and tools for participatory action research and innovation. The action research outputs of IBRAD help in changing the lives of its partners, who primarily are the tribal villagers and solving their real-life problems, be it reversing the process of degradation of ecosystems, conservation of biodiversity or improvement of livelihood opportunities. The research is carried out by interdisciplinary team.
