NRAA as an inter – ministerial is working for the integrated and holistic development of the rainfed areas of the country. IBRAD has been assigned the task of Compilation of the success stories on –

1. Study the watershed and land improvement works done on the  forest lands and contiguous non forest land and its impact on the productivity of agriculture, animal  husbandry , fisheries , and other primary sectors land based activities
2. Augmentation in the income of the people as well as impact on the forest and wild life of the area

The success stories will be prepared from different agro climatic regions of the country. This will give scope for cross case analysis to find the common learning for replication of the programme.

Time period:  January 2011 to June 2011

Area /regions selected to conduct the study
The states are selected based on their potential to improve the natural capital of the area through watershed development programmes to improve the livelihood of the people especially the forest fringe villages. Two success stories will be prepared from each state from each of the following regions of the country:

• To assess the watershed and land improvement works done on forest lands and contiguous non forest land
• To understand the different primary land based activities practiced in and around the area
• To assess the increase in productivity of such activities through watershed interventions
• To understand the impact of the interventions on the socio economic condition of the people and augmentation of their income in particular and on forest and wild life
• To find out the common learning for success from across the regions for replication of such efforts
