Role of Forests in the Ecosystem Services Provision

A two day SAARC Consultative Workshop on "Role of Forests in the Ecosystem Services Provision'' on 28th & 29th December 2010 was held at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata in collaboration with the West Bengal Forest Department to review the role of forest ecosystem services. Mr. Ajay Lal, Secretary General of SAARC briefed about the Objectives of the Workshop is brought together the best professionals related to the issue on a platform and thereby fostering a collective working. Mr. Sanjay Wangchuk, Director of SARRC Forestry focused on GNH (Gross National Happiness), Indicators of happiness. Mr. A.K. Raha, PCCF, WBFD addressed on Forest Ecosystem Services and Goods, Conservation of wildlife like red panda and tigers. The participating nations in the workshop were Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and India.

Forest Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation

A workshop on Forest Ecosystem Services for Poverty Alleviation was held on 16th December, 2010 in collaboration with Nottingham University, U.K. A follow up meeting of the workshop was held among the members of the IndES consortium such as Roy Haines-Young (Professor in Environmental Management and Director CEM), S.B. Roy (Chairman, IBRAD), Sanjay Kumar (Director, e-parliament), Raghu Ram Tata (Associate Professor, XLRI Jamshedpur), Raktima Mukherjee(IBRAD – Senior Programme Director) and some experts from forest department, academics and NGOs. They worked to draft the outline of the methodology for conducting the study.

NRM based Livelihood Planning

A three day training program on NRM based livelihood planning for the Community Leaders was held from 6th to 8th December, 2010 at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata under program SANCALP. Total of 29 Community Leaders participated in the program from seven states namely Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa and West Bengal.

Sustainability of Village Forest Committees

IBRAD was assigned to conduct two Training programs for the officials from Karnataka Forest Department on the topic “Sustainability of Village Forest Committees” at IBRAD campus. The first training program was conducted in the month of October 5th to 9th and the second training was held from 9th to 12th November, 2010. The field work for the officials was organized at Sundarban Tiger Reserve.

A Consultative Workshop on Criteria and Indicators Development for Sustainable NTFP Management” was organized by Indian Institute of Forest Management, Bhopal in Collaboration with IBRAD at Kolkata on 29th October, 2010. The program was sponsored by Ministry of Environment and Forests, Govt. of India, New Delhi

Sustainable Water Management

A two day International Seminar on “Sustainable Water Management”was organized by IBRAD in collaboration with GARNET South Asia and EPRC in the month of April, 2010.

 

Natural Resource Development

IBRAD was assigned to organize training on “Natural Resource Development” by National Rainfed Area Authority for the officials from different Government departments like Forest Department, Agriculture Department, Irrigation Department, etc. The state participated in the training were Assam, Tripura, Bihar, Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal from 10th to 12th March, 2010.

 

Holistic Approach to Watershed Management

IFS Compulsory Training Program was conducted on “Holistic Approach to Watershed Management through peoples participation” from 8th to 12th February, 2010.
