Training for the IFS Officers  

Two One Week Virtual Training was organized for the Indian Forest Service Officers on

  • 22 – 26 February 2021 on ‘Ensuring Ecological Sustainability and Livelihood of the Tribals’ with 25 officials from across the country and
  • 13 – 17 September 2021 on ‘Sustainable Development of Agro-Forest Mosaic Landscape Management: Experiences from the Field’ with 32 officials from across the country.

Both the training was assigned by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and the participating officials were of the ranks of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to the Chief Conservator of Forests and the Divisional Forest Officers.

Training Workshop for the IFS Officers

Two Virtual training workshops for the Indian Forest Service Officers were organized on

  • 1 – 2 March 2021 on Ensuring Ecological Sustainability and Livelihood of the Tribals with 24 participants and
  • 8 – 9 September 2021 on Creating People’s Networks for Sustainable Forest Management with 26 participants from across the country.  

Both the training workshops were assigned by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India, and the participating officials were of the ranks of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests to the Chief Conservator of Forests and the Divisional Forest Officers.

Training Workshop for Other Stakeholders

Two Virtual training workshops were organized for the Students, NGOs, and Professionals under the category of training for ‘Other Stakeholders’ on

  • 5-6 March 2021on ‘Ensuring Ecological Sustainability and Livelihood of the Tribals: Opportunities and Challenges through FRA 2006’ and
  • 12-13 August 2021 on ‘FRA 2006: Opportunities and Challenges of Sustainable Livelihood of the Tribals’ respectively.

More than 40 participants representing research scholars, students, development practitioners, NGOs professionals from across the country have participated in each of the workshops.

Training for the forest officials of Tripura on Gender Mainstreaming and Livelihood

Two Virtual training programs were conducted for the forest officials of Tripura Forest Department of the ranks of Divisional Forest Officer and Sub Divisional Forest Officer serving the Chief of the District Management Units and Sub Divisional Management Units under the Tripura JICA Project – Sustainable Catchment Forest Management (SCATFORM).

The training on Gender Mainstreaming was held on 7-8 October 2021 with the participation of 21 officers.

The Second Training was held on 21 and 22 October 2021 on the topic Livelihood, IGA, Cluster Promotion and Revolving Fund Management with the participation of 15 officers.

International Workshop on Nature-Based Solutions, Ecosystem Restoration for Sustainable Livelihood in the Context of SDGs  

The Fourth Virtual International Workshop for the International Network SEPARN (Socio-Ecological Participatory Action Research Network) was held on 23rd September 2021 on Nature-Based Solutions, Ecosystem Restoration for Sustainable Livelihood in the Context of SDGs’ with more than 70 participants from the UK, Belgium, Finland, India, and Bangladesh.

IBRAD is coordinating the SEPARN network with academics, researchers, development professionals, and policymakers from the countries of Finland, Belgium, Germany, the UK, Hungary, Kenya, Bangladesh, and India. It was initiated in June 2020 and since then four online international workshops were organized.    

The speakers for the workshop were

Professor Myriam Dumortier, Senior Researcher, INBO, Belgium who presented on the topic ‘Agroecological Restoration through Community Participation”

Dr Jan Dick, Senior Landscape Ecologist of UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology presented on ‘Nature-based solutions: Experiences from UK’

Dr Janne Heliola, Researcher, Finnish Environment Institute made his presentation on ‘Conservation of Grasslands: Experiences from Finland’

Professor S. B. Roy, Chairman of IBRAD was the keynote speaker.

Residential Training on Digital Ethnography for Sustainable Tribal Development

A residential training on Digital Ethnography for Sustainable Tribal Development was held from 22 – 26 November at the IBRAD campus. There were 11 participants who participated in the course.     

Another residential training on Digital Ethnography for Sustainable Tribal Development was held from 13 – 17 December 2021 at the IBRAD campus. There were 13 participants who participated in the course.   

Digital Ethnography for Climate Resilient Sustainable Tribal Development

A three days online training on Climate Resilient Sustainable Tribal Development from 28 – 30 December 2021. There were 40 participants from different parts of India.

International Workshop on Application of Digital Learning for Participatory Research

An online International Workshop on Application of Digital Learning for Participatory Research was organized on 3rd February 2022. Professor S. B. Roy, Chairman, IBRAD delivered the Key Note Address on Digital Ethnography for Participatory Action Research.

Presentations were made by the following speakers

  2. Dr. Eszter Kelemen, ESSRG, Hungary – Participatory research in a virtual Environment: Adjusting methodological toolkits

  4. Dr. Dick Jan, CEH, UK – Translating the principles of Participatory science in the digital environment

Residential Training on Sustainable Tribal Development

One week residential training on Sustainable Tribal Development was organized from 25 February – to 1st March 2022 at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata. There were 15 participants, belonging to the Baiga, Lodha and Kamar tribal communities from Chhattisgarh and Odisha.

Residential Immersion program of the students of One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Tribal Development Management

The residential immersion program for the students of the One Year Post Graduate Diploma in Sustainable Tribal Development Management was held from 5 – 10 March 2022.

Residential Training Camp on Climate Resilient Livelihood through Science Communication

A residential training was organized on Climate Resilient Livelihood through Science Communication under the project “Capacity Building for Climate Resilient Livelihood through Blended Digital Learning for Science Communication” funded by The National Commission of Science Communication, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India from 6 – 8 March 2022. There were 31 participants from Bankura, Jhargram, Coochbehar, Uttar, and Dakshin Dinajpur.

Workshop for the celebration of International Women’s Day

IBRAD has celebrated International Women’s Day on the 8th of March 2022 at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata. More than 50 persons including a group of painters participated in the workshop. IEC materials in the form of paintings, slogans, songs on the theme of women empowerment are developed by the participants.

Workshop on Sustainable forest for Sustainable Tribal Development on the occasion of World Forestry Day

A workshop was held on 22nd March 2022 at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata on Sustainable forest for Sustainable Tribal Development on the occasion of World Forestry day. It was attended by 42 participants including government officials, development professionals, academics, teachers, research scholars, and students as well as tribal villagers from Bankura and Jhargram districts of West Bengal. Sri Niraj Singhal, IFS, Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, West Bengal was the Chief Guest of the program.

A residential training on Project Formulation, Management and Monitoring – Ecosystem Restoration for Sustainable Tribal Development was held from 6 – 8 April 2022 for 10 students of the Indian Statistical Institute, Giridih.

Workshop for Celebration of International Mother Earth Day

A workshop was organized to celebrate International Mother Earth Day on 22nd April 2022 at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata. More than 50 participants were present in person at its campus for the celebration and many more persons have joined online via Zoom and Facebook Live.

A one-week training for the Indian Forest Service Officers on Integrated Forest Mosaic Landscape Management

A one-week training for the Indian Forest Service Officers on Integrated Forest Mosaic Landscape Management for Sustainable Tribal Development was held from 23-27 May 2022 at IBRAD Campus, Kolkata. Senior officials of the rank of Principal Chief Conservator of Forests, Chief Conservator of Forests, Conservator of Forests and Divisional Forest Officers from nine states were present at the training.

A three days Residential training was held from 3 – 5 June 2022

A three days Residential training was held from 3 – 5 June 2022 for the tribal community members and students of Agriculture on Sustainable Tribal Development. There were 13 participants from Chhattisgarh, Odisha and West Bengal who had undergone both theory and hands-on practical training.
